How to Pitch a Story

It’s our strong preference to receive pitches before you’ve written anything so we can guide you on deadlines, length, angle, and tone. We regret that we can not guarantee that articles you pitch or send will be published.

When you’re ready to make your pitch, email Editor Heather Blakeslee with a short paragraph of the idea along with any photos you already have that could accompany the article or essay. We can then talk about how it might fit into the magazine, and, if you’re also writing the article, together we will work out details on word count, approach, and deadlines. Please note that all articles will go through an editorial process, and, due to the changing nature of events, even assigned articles may not run or run in the next issue—but we’ll try!

After submitted articles go to press, QVNA gives authors permission to republish elsewhere as long as QVNA receives credit, e.g., “This article originally appeared in the Spring 2019 issue of QVNA. It has been reprinted with permission.”
