Kids Summer Program Needs Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for the Summer at Courtyard program, a learning enrichment program for kids age 5-11. This six-week program (July 9 – August 15) includes reading, art, music, structured exercise and field trips. Volunteers can choose to participate just one time, daily, or for any combination of days, times, and activities.

Adults with a Pennsylvania volunteer clearance  can immediately select activity slots on the Summer at Courtyard Sign Up Genius. Adults needing a clearance can receive a background check at no charge through this program. For more information, click here.

Summer at Courtyard runs Monday through Thursday at the Courtyard Community Room, 1021 S. 4th Street. Each day at 8:15am with breakfast as part of its daily schedule.

Summer at Courtyard is a partnership between QVNA, The Courtyard Residents Council, Southwark Development Corporation, Better Tomorrows and The Michaels Organization.  This is our fifth year of providing free summer enrichment programming to children from Queen Village, made possible through the generosity of our volunteers and financial sponsors and donors.

Call for Board Nominees

The QVNA Board is made up of five officers and eight Board members, all of whom serve two-year terms. The terms of the eight Board positions are staggered, with four Board members elected every year.
To be eligible to run for the Board, you must be a resident of Queen Village and have attended and signed in at any two QVNA-sponsored meetings.  Your personal skills and interests, a commitment to work with others, and your enthusiasm–it’s all part of the mix of what contributes to a well-functioning board.  QVNA cannot accomplish its mission without a board whose members work together, and who think in both the short and long term.
If you are interested and eligible – and can commit to the first Thursday of every month (except July and August) for Board Meetings, submit a photograph and 200 word statement about yourself and why you want to run to   The last day to submit a nomination is October 20th and will be published as received on our website.  The election will take place at the General Meeting on November 17, 2016 at 7pm.

Citizens Planning Institute Accepting Applications for Fall 2016

Citizens Planning Institute (CPI) is the education and outreach arm of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission.

CPI’s main programming is a biannual seven-week course that provides an introduction to city planning, zoning, the development process and special topics. CPI’s mission is to empower citizens to take a more effective and active role in shaping the future of their neighborhoods and of Philadelphia, through a greater understanding of city planning and the steps involved in development projects.
