What’s going on in Queen Village? Safety Ambassadors Meeting, Trash Pickup Delayed, Summer Solstice Block Party on 4th St, Pool Openings, and more!

Special Meeting to Discuss Hiring Safety Ambassadors
June 25, 6–7pm | QVNA Office at 709 S. 5th St.

QVNA is exploring whether to hire safety ambassadors in response to multiple neighbor queries about recent public safety concerns.

These ambassadors would be contracted through JNS Protection Services, a Philadelphia-based, woman/minority-owned business, currently under its second year of service in Society Hill.

The current proposal is for two unarmed ambassadors to serve as extra eyes and ears on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Please join us to share whether this is a service that you would like to see in the Village and whether you would be willing to provide financial support to help cover the cost.

QVNA/BVNA/Hawthorne Quizzo Night Win!

Thanks to everyone who came out to our first joint Quizzo Night of 2024, hosted by QVNA, BVNA, and Hawthorne neighbors! Thanks so much to Stan Horwitz of Hawthorne and Eugene from BVNA for getting the word out. The Bella Vista team won first place!

Summer on South Street: South Street is always celebrating something, from night markets to farmers’ markets, festivals to block parties, and everything else in between! Check out the full calendar of events here. 

Olympia After Hours Pride Night on Friday, June 28 from 6–9pm: Enjoy cocktails and mocktails aboard the Olympia, with performances by Average Goodname, Eugene Rideher, and Mister Right at the Independence Seaport Museum!

Nuisance Business Reporting: Need to report a nuisance business? Submit feedback using QVNA’s Nuisance Business Reporting Tool so that we can connect you with the appropriate city departments and get the issue resolved.

Phila311: You can submit a ticket directly to the city through 311 about an issue you see in the neighborhood. If you don’t hear back, please email info@qvna.org and we will follow up on the ticket for you.

Get Involved! Interested in volunteering with QVNA to help improve the neighborhood? From our dedicated park Friends groups to our standing committees, participating is a great way to meet like-minded neighbors and drive larger, neighborhood changes. This week, we’re promoting our Safe Streets Committee, which advocates for safer street practices for all road users, as well as our Membership Committee, which seeks to put on more QVNA events and increase community engagement. Stay Cool During the Heat Wave

Philadelphia is experiencing temperatures in the 90s all week. Remember that you can visit cooling centers, pools, and spraygrounds. You can also call the Heatline at (215) 765-9040 for information on emergency services. Follow the tips below to stay safe and hydrated:

1. Drink plenty of water. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks.

2. Outside: Avoid working, exercising, or playing outside during the hottest part of the day (usually 12–5 p.m.). Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothes. Wear a wide-brimmed hat or use an umbrella for shade.

3. At home: Use air conditioners and fans. If you use a fan, make sure your windows are open to release trapped hot air. Use drapes, shades, or awnings in your home. Outdoor awnings can reduce the heat that enters the home by up to 80 percent. Take a cool shower or bath.

4. Remember: Never leave older people, children, or pets alone in cars. Check on older adults who live alone.
