Historic and Modern Homes

See also “The Queen Village Guide to Historic Buildings” by Al Dorof

Queen Village’s history over four centuries can be read in its architecture, the places where people lived, worshipped, and worked and still do. The neighborhood boasts one of the largest concentrations of 18th- and 19th-century homes in the nation. Most are simple, unadorned structures that reflect the neighborhood’s roots as a working- and middle-class riverfront community. No more than two stories tall, with a sloped roof punctuated by a dormer window. Others mix grander and more fashionable styles, incorporating details across architectural periods, from Colonial to Georgian, Federal to Greek Revival, Victorian Eclectic as well as modern architecture.
