Announcement: Weccacoe Playground Tennis Court

For quite some time now there has been an ongoing discussion in the community concerning the proper and legal use of the tennis court at Weccacoe Playground. That is, should dogs be allowed continued access as a matter of previous use, despite complaints from tennis players forced to play in often unsanitary conditions and nearby neighbors over barking dogs.

QVNA reaffirms its commitment to work with dog owners to find acceptable venues in the neighborhood for dogs to do their business, get some exercise, and to find alternative opportunities for their owners to mingle socially with other neighbors. Meetings between the QVNA Zoning committee and interested neighbors will continue to explore other available opportunities for their dogs, since on March 1st, Department of Recreation signs restricting use of the court to tennis only will be posted on the court at Weccacoe Playground.

We believe this issue has been vetted extensively and the Board stands by its decision to uphold Department of Recreation rules as well as City regs that together mandate restraining dogs from using the Weccacoe tennis court. In accordance with transparency and good governance, QVNA will continue to promote public discussion of issues through committee hearings, Crier articles, our web site and email updates, as well as at General Membership monthly meetings. To that end:

THERE WILL BE A QUEEN VILLAGE NEIGHBORS ASSOCIATION MEETING HOSTED BY THE ZONING COMMITTEE, TUESDAY, JANUARY 29, 2008, AT 7:30 PM AT THE WECCACOE PLAYGROUND BUILDING (400 block of Catharine Street) FOR AN INITIAL DISCUSSION OF THE FOLLOWING:

EXISTING AND POTENTIAL DOG AREAS IN QUEEN VILLAGE (INCLUDING A POSSIBLE TEMPORARY AREA IN WECCACOE PLAYGROUND); PUBLIC OPEN SPACE ISSUES

OTHER MEETINGS WILL BE SCHEDULED AS NEEDED

All residents are welcome and urged to attend
