Village Transit Guide 2. Transit Terms and Terminology
Subway Surface – Also called the “Green Line.” Trolley system in a subway under west Market Street and University City. The trolley cars run on the street west of University City. NJT – New Jersey Transit, a statewide public transit provider. NJT buses on Market Street connect Center City with South Jersey ’burbs, while NJT buses from the 10th & Filbert bus terminal serve more distant points, including the Shore. PATCO – Provides “Speedliner” trains, via the Locust/8th Sts. subway and Ben Franklin Bridge, to Lindenwold via Camden, Collingswood, Haddonfield. Token – Metal “coin” sold by SEPTA and vendors like Rite Aid that equals one regular cash fare, but costs 70˘ less. Transpass – An electronic fare card issued by week or month that allows unlimited rides in the city and one zone beyond – swipe it at the farebox when you board a bus or trolley, or go through a turnstile, or show it to the trainman on Regional Rail. Weekends and holidays, a transpass covers the entire 5-county SEPTA system without any zone charge. |
